How to Craft the Perfect 90-Second Voice Pitch

January 20, 2026 6 min read

Your voice pitch is your first impression. Learn the proven structure that top candidates use to land referrals at companies like Google, Amazon, and Meta.

Your voice pitch might be the most important 90 seconds of your job search. No pressure, right? Actually, once you know the structure, it becomes surprisingly natural. Here's the framework that top candidates use to land referrals at the world's best companies.

The Opening (15 seconds)

Start with energy and specificity. Don't say "Hi, I'm interested in your company." Instead, try something like "Hi, I'm Sarah, a backend engineer who's been following your team's work on distributed systems—particularly the paper your CTO published on consensus algorithms last month."

The Hook (20 seconds)

Quickly establish your credibility with one compelling data point. "In my current role at Startup X, I led the migration from a monolith to microservices, reducing deployment time by 80% and handling 10x the traffic with the same infrastructure."

The Why (25 seconds)

This is where most candidates fail. Don't just say you want to work at Google because it's Google. Be specific: "I want to join your Cloud team because I believe the future of computing is serverless, and your team is building the infrastructure that will make that possible. My experience scaling systems from zero to millions of users is directly relevant."

The Ask (20 seconds)

Be clear and respectful about what you're asking for. "I'd love the opportunity to be referred for the Senior Backend Engineer role on the Cloud Platform team. I've uploaded my resume with my full background, and I'm happy to provide any additional information that would be helpful."

Pro Tips

Practice out loud at least 5 times before recording. Smile while you speak—it genuinely changes your tone. Record in a quiet space. Don't read from a script; use bullet points instead. And most importantly, be yourself. Authenticity is what makes voice pitches powerful.

Remember, the referrer is a real person who chose to be on Stage One because they want to help great talent. They're rooting for you. Your pitch just needs to show them why you deserve that referral.
