From Frustration to Stage One: Our Founding Story
Vineet and Rohan watched brilliant colleagues get rejected by algorithms while hiring managers drowned in spam. Here's how that frustration became Stage One.
Stage One was born from a shared frustration. As Vineet (Products) and Rohan (Engineering) watched the hiring landscape evolve over the past decade, they noticed something paradoxical: despite all the technological advances, especially in AI, the hiring process had actually gotten worse.
The problem was clear. On one side, talented professionals were getting rejected by keyword-matching algorithms before a human ever saw their application. Brilliant engineers, designers, and product managers—people we knew and had worked with—were being filtered out by systems that couldn't recognize potential.
On the other side, hiring managers and employees were drowning in noise. Every LinkedIn connection request came with a referral ask. Every email was a pitch. The volume made it impossible to identify genuine talent from the spam, so most people simply stopped responding.
We realized the core issue: there was no reliable way to signal quality. A resume is a static document. A LinkedIn profile is a curated highlight reel. A cold email is easily automated. None of these formats let someone truly express who they are and why they're a great fit.
That's when the idea of voice pitches clicked. A voice message can't be faked or mass-produced. It carries emotion, enthusiasm, and personality. It takes effort, which signals genuine interest. And it takes just 60-90 seconds to listen to—respecting the referrer's time.
We built Stage One to be the tool we wished we had: a direct line to decision-makers that bypasses the noise entirely. A platform where quality is rewarded, authenticity is valued, and both sides of the referral equation are respected.
We're just getting started. Our vision is a world where talented people never get stuck behind algorithms, and employees can confidently connect great talent with great opportunities. If that resonates with you, we'd love for you to join us—as a candidate, a referrer, or both.
